Animal testing is horrible! Would you like to see a(n) cat in eye shadow? I know I don't!

See, i think there is an important middle ground and agree with Caramel's post. "who put animals here for us to test on?" no one. but in the same way that nature assures we eat those animals (until very very recently), we are a more intelligent species.

we use animals for all kinds of things, from being show animals, to pets, to rescue animals, to bomb sniffers, to labrats. not all of it (most of it) is not pretty, but in the deepest depth of my heart, i know i would put the life of a 2 year old human baby above a 2 year old cat. I knwo that I want to make sure my sister does not die of cancer, and that my thyroid which has serious issues, has safe medicine so i and others don't die.

Having said that, perhaps what we need is not an end to animal testing, but better enforcement, better community involvement to insure that only tests that need to be done are done - and that while in the duration of the tests the animals are kept in teh best possible conditions at the time. That should be something we could all agree on, right?

This is a topic that is very difficult to discuss in depth back and forth over the internet. It brings up a lot of questions. For example, does the fact that humans are more intelligent than animals give us the right to do what we want to them? In some respects, some animals far surpass humans in abilities (including, in some cases, various cognitive abilities). This is a much bigger discussion than I like to undertake on a site to which I come to have fun and be happy and honor my cats.

What I do want to say is that many, many animals die in unnecessary tests, such as those previously conducted by cranberry and pomegranate juice companies and tobacco companies (what more can be said about tobacco as it relates to health?). Moreover, most lab animals are not kept in humane conditions and APHIS does not do its part to regulate the industry.
