oh yeah, i noticed the little flecks, but couldn't figure out what they were... hmmm interesting, flax seed isn't listed in the ingredients, unless it's listed under another name. i can't say that i'm thrilled to find out there is something in it that's not clearly listed like that...
Well we'll see, i haven't found any pukes yet and i fed it for lunch a few hours ago. Course, i have 2 dogs, so sometimes it's hard to find the pukes before the dogs do...
i think that i'm gonna take a look at the evo online, if the shipping isn't horrible, i think i would like to try that. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Unfortunately, Petsmart is really the only petstore in my area and they don't carry a great selection of healthy pet food...
This is Delyte. Have you mentioned this puking problem to the vet? It is an outside chance but possibly she has something wrong with her teeth or some kind of chronic malformation. Some cats have pouches in their digestive tract, for instance.
My former companion, Peri, had a very hard time eating and we decided that she had a slightly deformed or paralyzed tongue that did not work right. She had a terrible time drinking water, and eventually developed a process where she dipped her paw in water and licked it off. When I was a wild young kitten we had to be fed separately because I would eat all my food and try to steal hers which she was still working on!
Now I am the puker because I still eat too fast plus these brat kittens or horses or whatever they are hassle me when I eat. It's no fun being pestered by something that looks like a kitten and weighs about 16 pounds!
i suppose that it's possible,I'm pretty sure that it's food related though. She was just in for her annual about a month ago, and the vet said that her teeth and mouth looked good, but i'll give them a call anyway if it doesn't clear up in a day or two. i'm beginning to think that it was the mix between the wet and the dry that was really causing the problems. i've been giving wet in the morning and dry in the evenings and so far it's been much better. We've had 1 puke since i started that 3 days ago, and that is a MAJOR improvement, and really pretty normal for her.
i've found a possible supplier of innova evo (i'm so excited!!) in town where i live, so i'm gonna try that next, and i have high hopes for that bein "the one"
Hi Cricket,
It sounds like you're on the right track to solving your puking problems. I sure hope so anyway.
Evo is a very good food, so I hope you like it if your mommy gets you some. And if for some reason it doesn't work for you, there are lots of other choices to try, so don't worry.
Most websites of the cat food company's have a store locator. So if there's a food you want to try just visit the website and see if it's sold at any stores near you. You might be surprised at the places that carry quality pet food, from feed stores to boutiques, so you might have more of a choice than just PetsMart.
Good luck with finding your new food. I'm purring you'll be very happy and healthy as a result.
Yay!!! Turns out there is a bakery and boutique that carries a variety of awesome dog and cat food that i never knew about, right here in po-dunk montana (my new favorite store!!)
I bought a variety of grain free canned food and a bag of evo dry. So far i've only tried one canned food, instinct rabbit, and WOW!! first of all, both Cricket and Nayru (who tends to be a little picky) snarfed it down like they hadn't eaten in a week, and with no pukes!!
Plus, lazy Cricket actually came out and started playing that night!! So my new theory is that the poor thing is grain intolerant, so here's to a new diet without grain, and hopefully without pukes!!
Cats vomit because the food you give us is horrible or we are sick/have fur balls. Assuming we aren't sick or have a fur ball, we suggest you buy the best quality wet cat food you can find - most of the stuff marketed out there as "gourmet" is pure garbage that shouldn't be fed to a dog, let alone us finicky cats. Most of the "natural" food is even worse.
We've tried em all, cheap to expensive. Our hands down favorite is Fancy Feast "Gourmet" style (we dislike the "chunky", "roasted" and "sliced" styles, although your children, err, cats may like them).
Fancy Feast has great selection of flavors/textures and is widely available (most grocery stores/pet stores). We go to Petco and buy every "Gourmet" style flavor they carry (about a dozen flavors) and rotate flavors on a daily basis so we don't get tired of any. Cost about $0.50 a can but it's far and away the best value as the food is real food, not a bunch of fillers that many other supposedly "top quality" brands use. As such, we need less food to fill up and are happier about our food. We've enjoyed FF for many years and it remains our favorite despite many other brands we've tried. Since we are happy, we really don't desire other brands, but an ocasional change is always welcome. We like Albacore Tuna in water (Dolphin free!) as a special treat and especially like the juice. To get us to eat all the tuna (it is very rich and unless there is plenty of juice, we leave much of it behind), we like it blended. We think it is yummy, but can only be served occasionally in small portions as a special treat.
It's easy to tell when you have high quality food. It looks real, smells good and enticing even to humans. Compare FF to other so-called "top" brands (that are just as or more expensive) and you quickly notice the difference just in the color as most others use fillers that make the food look/smell like sludge. There are a few other decent high quality brands, but they are usually twice the price (and often difficult to find) and we only buy them on sale for more variety. If you doubt us or are too stupid, put two brands of similar flavor food side by side and see which we prefer. Any cat worth their salt will quickly show you the error of your ways.
We always want dry cat food out all day long - some days we won't like the current selection of wet food and prefer to eat the dry. Dry food more than a day old should given to the raccoons. Buy half a dozen flavors and brands of dry food to ensure we get a tasty and varied diet. It's ok to give us lower quality food that has good flavor, so long as it isn't an every day thing.
A few hints: Never mix food. Make SURE it is fresh. Wet food that is more than a few hours old and it's time to throw it out (and is one reason why we like the small cans of Fancy Feast). Cats use our noses and we can quickly tell when stale/old food is around. You wouldn't serve a child or spouse food that's been lying around for hours/days, so why expect us to eat it? We aren't dogs!
Please serve us on plates with shallow lips rather than bowls we don't like to jam our faces into bowls (again, we aren't dogs). Put plates on top of bowls that have ant moats - no fun to wake up and see a line of ants covering our food dishes. And avoid serving the same flavor within two days, even if it's our favorite as we can quickly get jaded.
A good rule of thumb is to treat us cats like family and vary the food daily (during the day as well - a flavor served in the morning shouldn't be served again that night). We (and you) will be happier and we''ll usually eat every bit of food you serve, ultimately saving you money and making us very happy
