Whiny Kitty and Agressive Kitty

My 5/6 month old kitten is generally very agressively playful (she won't approach you to play, but when you try and pet her if she isn't sleepy, she'll swat at your hands playfully - very little claws), but every so often (and she has done this since I got her when she was 8 weeks old), she will get in a mood where she just cries and rolls around on the floor until someone picks her up. This can last anywhere from 2 to 5 days, and it drives me up the wall! It's not heat, and the vet says shes just doing for attention (she was abandoned). What can I do to curb this behaviour? I'll be introducing her to the new kitten in a month's time, and I don't want her to pass this attention-seeking behaviour on to the baby.

I try never to second-guess a vet, but I think I'd ask for a second opinion. An animal who rolls on the floor and cries may be having some sort of seizure or pain somewhere. If she has a happy life and you play with her and show her adequate attention, at the age of 5/6 months she should be well-adjusted. A new kitten may just be the "cure' she needs if it does happen to be attention-related as your vet says. But I would ask for a second opinion (different vet) to make sure she has no health-related issues.

kaya skye

i once raised a feral found abandoned in a storm drain that-once she stopped skulking and hiding-became velcro-kitten for awhile. just to me...everyone else was still evil. well, i needed my hands for something besides holding kitty, so i started wearing hooded sweatshirts (luckily it was winter) and sticking velcro-kitten (devon) in the pouch or the hood as my little ride-along. maybe you could rig up something similar?
