I agree with EVERYTHING Izzie has said. Please do not subject a poor defenseless kitten to your mean kitty. Try to work with training the cat you have instead. Find out what provokes him when he is mean and work with him on stopping that behavior. Make a better pet out of the one you have before giving up and getting a new one.

I think your question is "should I get another cat?" If your resident cat is prone to attacking when something annoys him, the LAST thing you want to do is get a young, defenseless kitten, boy or girl. It would not be a good thing if, in a playful mood, (which kittens ALWAYS are) the baby provoked the male and he attacked it. If he is a big cat, he could even kill the kitten. Aggressive cats will attack if provoked, no matter if it is a male or female cat, a dog, an adult or a child. You describe your cat as "mean" and that he "will attack at times." Please reconsider getting another pet while you have this one.
