Using RSS Feeds on Catster

It's kind of geeky but it's pretty nifty

RSS, commonly known to mean "Really Simple Syndication" is a standardized information format, which in this case we've made to display new cats that meet your search requirements. The "feed' of adoptable cats can be viewed by Feed Reader software which keeps tracks of which items you've seen and only shows you updates you haven't seen yet. This means that anytime there is a new match to your request, you'll see it in the Feed Reader without even having to come to our site.

You can either grab the RSS feed link and add to your Feed Reader, or if you have account with any of the services display (AOL, Google, Yahoo!, etc) just click that image and it will get automagically added. There are dozens of free feed reader services. A couple web-based ones we use and like are: Bloglines and Google Reader. If all of this sounds like a confusing waste of time, you should probably just ignore this dorky stuff and get back to finding the perfect cats for you!

I don't think I can actually do the 'How-To' better than Heinz, so I'm linking to his description on About.com. It's really thorough and has tons of links to downloads and further explanations.

If you want more help do a search in the forums or post your question, I'm sure you'll get an answer right away! Have fun!
